Repertoire

The Shrewsbury Baroque Orchestra delights in exploring repertoire from the early 17th century through to the late 18th century. Alongside performances of the great pillars of the Baroque, the ensemble is equally passionate about championing lesser-known works—unearthing music by overlooked or rarely heard composers, and reviving pieces that may not have been performed or recorded in recent times.

The orchestra performs exclusively on period instruments, including gut strings, arched bows, harpsichords, theorbos, and a wide range of other fascinating historical instruments, selected to suit each programme. The SBO is also proud to continue a close and valued relationship with The Phoenix Singers of Shrewsbury for performances of choral works with orchestra, a collaboration passed on from its sister chamber ensemble, Noxwode.
